###############################################################################
Intro [Int1]
###############################################################################
From Dust is a game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier designed by Eric Chahi.
The game is heavily influenced by the classic Bullfrog game Populous (as if you
needed me to tell you that). Throughout the game you"ll take control of
"The Breath”, a god-like manifestation that aids the primitive People as they
search the world for "The Ancients”, who had complete mastery over the landscape
but mysterious disappeared long before living memory.
I on the other hand; have worked on websites devoted to games; written many
reviews; articles and, in the past, plenty of dodgy walkthroughs (sorry).
This will be my second walkthrough in as many years, my last one being the
original Hydrophobia for Xbox Arcade. Anyway hope this guide helps you otherwise
it was a complete waste of time, yay!

###############################################################################
How to use this Guide [HTUG]
###############################################################################

First off at the end of each section there will be a four letter code, for easy
access press Control + F to open the search tab then type it in. If I"ve
managed to tie everything up correctly there should only be two occurrences of
that code; one in the contents, the other at the actual section.

The main guide is split into several sections; The Gimmick, New Powers, Intro,
The Necessary Steps and 100% Vegetation. The Gimmick section basically outlines
anything interesting that is going on in the level as most levels having
something worthy of note. The New Powers detail anything new which relates to
The Breath. The Intro is just a recap of what"s said in the intro of the level.
The Necessary Steps section gives a concise step-by-step guide to complete the
level while also pointing out any hidden extras. Finally 100% Vegetation gives
you some hints on how to complete, well, 100% vegetation in the level.

Since giving directions is a massive pain for a game with constantly changing
terrain and a camera with free 360 degree rotational control I will be using
the starting position as facing North. To realign to my orientation either head
back to the starting position or look for an instance when I reference things
that are very unlikely to have moved.

###############################################################################
The Basics [TBSC]
###############################################################################

#################################Controls [COT1]###############################

Left Stick (L-Stick) - Controls the movement of the cursor (the Breath)
Right Stick (R-Stick) - Controls the position of the camera.
Direction Pad (D-pad) - Selects and controls powers. Once a power is activated
press in the same direction again to cancel it.
Back Button (Select) - Brings up the Memory of the People.
Start Button - Brings up Pause Menu.
Left Trigger (LT) - Collect matter.
Left Bumper (LB) - Zoom in on selected Men.
Right Trigger (RT) - Release collected matter.
Right Bumper (RB) - Change view from close up to global and vice-versa.
LT and RT together - Releases all material collected in one go.
A button - Send man to item of interest, Move village (Contextual)
B Button - Cancel (Contextual)
X Button - Increase speed of cursor (i.e you)
Y Button - Not used.

##############################The Breath [BRAH]###############################

The Breath is what you, as the player, control; it"s the will of the Tribe,
and is controlled by the village shaman. I guess that would make us the many
generations of shamans technically. At first you"ll only be able to interact
with sand but soon you"ll be upgraded to allow manipulation of water, lava,
plants and numerous different powers.

‘But how do we manipulate these things?" I hear you cry, well for starters you
can pick up elements underneath the cursor be it earth, lava or water.
This will then collect in a big floating ball, but the amount you can pick up
is limited. You can then move this ball of matter anywhere on the map, there
is no limit or "circle of influence” aside from the map boundaries. You can
then place this matter down to create new terrain; the rate at which you
release the matter is controlled by the pressure on the Right trigger.

The whole game is based around finding the suitable element, finding where
to put it and then waiting for the Men to do whatever it is you"re currently
waiting for them to do. In-fact is that them I hear in the background there?
You haven"t left them stuck on a rock again have you?
################################Men [AMEN]#####################################

Men are tall, blond, dark and Lean.
They"re rough and tough and strong and mean.
They"re also a complete pain in the arse.

People are the reason for the game, they"re a primitive tribal society that
travel the Earth looking for the Ancients, a race of powerful people who
managed to find (or create) sanctuary away from this dangerous planet. So Men
must find the relics of the Ancients and gain their knowledge in order to pass
onto the next area in order to search for them.

To do this they"ll found villages around the totem poles, find wisdom on
engraved rocks and they"ve created The Breath to aid them in this task.
The only problem is that they"re incredibly stupid putting themselves in harm"s
way, missing the obvious path and always - always - crying for help.

############################The Elements [TELM]################################
No not the periodic table but the most basic traditional term for it. You know;
Water, Earth, Wind and Fire…well minus the wind, unless you count music as air
power. Anyway to successfully complete the game you"ll need to know about the
different Elements.

Earth: earth (aka sand as I often call it) is the first element you learn to
control. It"s very useful for creating bridges and dams. Earth is probably
better than lava, if you"re not under any strain at the time, at creating
ramps and bridges across water. The reason for this is that earth will
collapse towards gravity, so if you pile a mound of it up at it"ll naturally
compress, tumble down the sides and generally smooth out; creating an easier
path for Men to follow. Earth is also necessary to grow vegetation.

Water: water is pretty much going to be the bane of your existence throughout
the game. Men won"t cross it unless you create a bridge, but if the current
is strong enough it"ll wash away the bridge. Water will also flood you
villages making them inhabitable. Water will also take the form of tsunamis
and torrential rain that"ll flood the whole map, in short you won"t like
water and that"s the way it likes it. Water does have a caring side; it"ll put
out fires, help vegetation spread in arid regions and nourishes elemental
trees.

Lava: lava is the final element you can control and it doubles as fire for
simplicities sake. Lava when cooled creates rock, now rock is the -well-
bedrock of the world. That means it"s the hardest substance there is, and if
you build something with it, only explosive trees are going to put a dent in
it. When lava is placed it"ll generally cool into steep mounds, great for dams
but Men won"t have an easy time crossing it. Lava however is hot, very, very
hot and anything in its path will be burnt to a crisp. It"ll also spread fires
if it comes into contact with vegetation which is generally a bad thing. Fire
can be put out using water or by covering it with earth if you"re in a really
tight spot.

Air: I assume it"s there, men breath it. Occasionally you can evaporate water
into it. There you go; the four elements.

##############################Totem Poles [TTPL]###############################

Totem Poles are the relics of the Ancients, carved to reflect People and to
pass on knowledge. They also act as the centre of a village. You"ll need to
send at least five people to a pole to start up a village and sometimes the
Totem Pole will house a power. There are a maximum of four Totem Poles in a
level. You"ll need to capture all poles on the map to complete the level.

Villages can be destroyed via flooding or fire but Totem Poles are
indestructible and will either say submerged (but intact) under water if
flooded or slowly raise themselves out of Lava and rock if covered by the
stuff. Once a village is destroyed any survivors will immediately attempt to
restart a village. Totem Poles can be moved later in the game to better
protect your villages from natural disasters.

###############################Powers [POW2]###################################

-------------------------------Jellify Water-----------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 60 Seconds

Jellify Water (and yes that is how you spell it) turns all water into jelly,
or as the game puts it, into an obstacle. This means you can scoop up water
and place it on solid ground leaving it just wobble there. This also works on
steams and the sea as you can carve out paths for men and vegetation to cross
through just like Moses parting the Red Sea.

As less known, but very useful side effect, of this power is that it cancels
out momentum. Using it when a tsunami is on the map makes it much less
destructive. You"ve still got a 50-foot wall of water suspended in mid-air
that has to go somewhere but there is no driving force behind it.

---------------------------------Evaporate-------------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 60 Seconds

Evaporate will remove all the water on the map, well most of it at any rate.
Once activated the water in the area will slowly turn into mist and ascend to
a higher plane…probably causing turbulence. This makes it very handy when
there is a high chance of flooding (in-fact you"ll only get it on levels with
that risk) but it also allows great control of the water level.

-------------------------------Put Out Fire------------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 30 Seconds

Put Out Fire puts out all fires on the map…oddly enough. One thing you can say
about these powers is that they"re well named. You"ll generally only get this
power when you"re on a map with lots of lava or fire trees. The recharge is
rate is pretty quick so you can feel safe to use it whenever you see a flicker
of flame.

------------------------------Amplify the Breath-------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 15 seconds

Amplify the Breath is probably the most useful and versatile power you can get.
It increases the power of the Breath allowing you to pick up more matter and
to drop more matter in one go. But wait there"s more; Amplify the Breath works
when combined with other powers too. So use it with Infinite Earth and you"ll
drop a more earth than normal, use it with Engulf all and you"ll remove more
matter, use it with Jelly water and you"ll have a much easier time making
paths. It has a fast recharge rate and, provided you remember to turn it off
quickly after use, you can pretty much spam it.

--------------------------------Infinite Earth---------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 15 Seconds

Infinite Earth is my favourite power in the game. It gives you the power to
create as much earth as you can drop within the strict time limit. So creating
bridges, spreading vegetation or building up your villages higher has never
been so easy. Couple if it with Amplify the Breath (as mentioned above) and
you"ll drop even more sand allowing you to create massive mounds of earth in
the blink of an eye, mounds that"ll stand against tsunamis and high tides
and that"ll spread vegetation to boot.

----------------------------------Engulf All-----------------------------------

Duration/Recharge Time: 50 Seconds

While Engulf All is probably the most useless power in the game. Engulf All
sucks up matter such as earth, water and lava and makes it disappear from the
map. This means it"s only practical use is removing water from the in-land
lakes you"ve built up or maybe at a pinch destroying earth (and vegetation)
if a fire breaks out or lava when it gets out of control. Also I don"t think
it works at lowering the level of the sea either, I did a couple of
experiments and it didn"t leave a noticeable difference. If it could remove
rock it would have been a different story but alas, no.

##############################The Passage [TPSS]###############################

The Passage is the end of the level, simple enough.

Unlocking the passage is done by starting up all villages on the map, the most
there can be is four. Once done all you need to do it find it and then create
a way for People to reach it. Once five people have reached the passage they"ll
begin to pray and a big A will flash over the top of it. Now you can spend your
time doing whatever you please, those people will keep praying until you"ve
done whatever it is you"re currently doing. Once you"re ready however go over
and press, you guessed it, A to complete the level.

##############################Vegetation [VEGT]################################

Vegetation is a completely optional extra in almost every level (the first one
is omitted). Getting "100% vegetation” in a level unlocks additional Tribal
Memories and new Challenge maps. Now getting 100% doesn"t really mean covering
the whole map in vegetation, or all the landmasses, or even all the sand on
the map with vegetation. It"s just an arbitrary amount of trees; to keep track
of it you"ll have a plant meter in the left side of the screen. You"ll keep
100% after obtaining it no matter what happens so don"t worry if you get
flooded or everything is burned just before you finish the level.
To start with most of the map will be barren, there may be some trees dotted
in some inaccessible area of the map, but for the most there is nothing but
bare sand and rock. To start spreading vegetation you"ll need to start a
village, once done that"ll cause some plants to grow in the immediate vicinity.
Provided there is sand connecting to your village plants will slowly grow along
it spreading out until it hits rock or water.

Sand is the important factor with vegetation and can at times be a precious
commodity so spread it thinly when you"ve got large expanses to cover.

Once you"ve got a nice wood covering the land be careful of fire; fire is
caused by lava or fire trees and because plants generally originate from your
villages you can be sure that once a wildfire starts it"ll soon be burning
down your villages too. Use water or large amounts of dirt to put out fires
or quickly remove bridges so stop the fire from spreading.

########################Unlocking Tribal Memories [ULTM]#######################

As you progress through the game you"ll notice you"ll get messages popping up
telling you you"ve unlock a Memory of the Tribe. These are stories about the
world of From Dust from the perspective of the tribe (for the memories
themselves check out the contents and look for Memory of the Tribe at the
bottom).

There are two ways to unlock new memories. Find the seven hidden stones that
contain a memory or cover the levels in vegetation. Generally you"ll get one
for 50% and 100% vegetation.

###############################################################################
** The Breath [THBH]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

And here we are, as on the first day...
Bereft of memory and without a breath of this unknown land.
Without the breath, can we call ourselves 'men'?
We are estranged, estranged from ourselves and from the earth.
First we must learn to speak with the world.

################################The Gimmick####################################

Nothing special to mention in this world, well it is the first level after all.

#################################New Powers####################################

The first (and only power) for this level is the ability to move earth around.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Welcome to From Dust after the cut-scene the first thing you should
do is hold down the LT, this will create "The Breath”. It"s important to
create this because you"ll be playing as The Breath throughout the game.
It"s sort of a demi-god that assists People throughout the world and it"s
controlled through the power of music by the People"s Shaman.

Step Two: Follow the Men by using the L-stick and you"ll notice that they"ll
come to a stop near the edge of some water. Men don"t swim over obstacles so
head over to the right, grab a load of sand and then place it in the water to
create a bridge so they can cross. To collect sand hold LT, and to release it
hold RT. To dump all of your sand in one go; press RT and then LT. If Men get
stuck at any point along the way just drop some more sand down to create a
path.

Step Three: Head to the Passage. Once five People have reached the passage
you can press A to complete the level.

################################100% Vegetation################################

There is no way to spread vegetation in this level; therefore it doesn"t count
 towards any of the achievements.

###############################################################################
**The Ritual [THRT]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

A new and vibrant land spreads out before us.
Here, the ancients erected a totem.
But they have disappeared.
Around this totem, we will perform the ritual of the village.

################################The Gimmick####################################

The only thing to take note of here is the water source to the North, it"ll
provide a constant source (heh) of sand.

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll gain the ability to move around water and vegetation will
start to spread, meaning you"ll start to unlock stuff.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Grab some sand and create a path to the next island with a Totem Pole
on it. Once done press A on the pole and People will head over to create your
very first village.

Step Two: Build a bridge to the East towards the second Totem Pole, then
collect the Water that surrounds it before pressing A and calling the People
to create the second village.

Step Three: Head North of the second village and collect the stone with a
[Memory of the People] in it.

Step Four: Create a bridge to the island North West of the first village and
send Men to the passage to complete the level.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Don"t do what I did the first time and block up the water source because it
provides a constant source of sand. Sand is necessary for the spreading of
plants so cover all the rock next to the second village and link up all the
small islands. If you find you"re still short of space then you can create
a lake within a series of islands and then remove all the water from it to
create a nice large island but this isn"t really needed. Overall all you need
is the patience to let nature run its course.

Unlocks Memories;
50%-Vegetation: The palm trees
100%- Territories: The ritual

###############################################################################
**The Roar of the Sea [TROS]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

Our journey has taken us to a peaceful shore, but the shaman is uneasy.
The echo of the water still resonates in this earth.

################################The Gimmick####################################

Tsunamis will appear soon after you establish your first village. These massive
waves will wash over the entire landscape, destroying sand bridges, dams and
even villages if you let it.

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll make use of a stone of power, these protect the village
from natural disasters. In this case it"ll be the power to Repel Water.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Establish the first village directly to the North of the starting
position.

Step Two: A tsunami is now approaching and the rock shown in the cut-scene
houses the repel water knowledge that is needed if you want to have a village
left standing. Create a bridge from the village to the main land and send Men
to collect the water stone. Find the source of the third river (going from
West to East) that is blocking the path to the stone. Follow it down until the
first waterfall; collect as much sand as you can and then dump it all in one
go. This will redirect the flow.

Step Three: You may want to wait until after the tsunami has past. Find the
fourth source of the river that is blocking your path to the second village to
the East. Follow it down past where the two rivers meet (it joins with the one
you"ve just redirected) and notice that to the East one side is slightly lower
than normal. Collect a bunch of sand and make a dam so the water gets
redirected to the East and out of the way. Now send Men to establish the
second village. If you"re fast enough you should be able to get the village
up and running and protect both the villages before the first tsunami.

Step Four: Send Men to the passage. The passage is under water, past a large
body of water to the East. Create a bridge across and then remove the sand
banks keeping the water in to make life easier, then either create a bridge
or remove any water that remains to get to the passage.

################################100% Vegetation################################

To get full vegetation simply redirect most of the rivers (which you would
have done if you followed my steps) and allow plants to cross over to the
island where the passage is. Be sure to cover sand over the line of rock so
plants can colonise the rest of the island. Just remember that the tsunami
will wipe away all vegetation and any bridges you"ve built so repair them
quickly, because another one will be along in a few minutes.

Unlocks Memories;
50%- The journey: Knowledge
100%- Territories: The roar of the sea, Challenge: Guardian Angel.

###############################################################################
** The First Power [PWER]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

Once again, only vestiges of the Ancients remain.
In the midst of the raging elements, they raised a high wall.
But it has endured the mighty onslaught of the sea,
What remains of it today?

################################The Gimmick####################################

Constant tsunamis will strike from the North; thankfully there is a wall in the
way. There is also a volcano to the south that"ll be spewing lava.

#################################New Powers####################################

You"ll now be able to pick up lava, this is quite dangerous with the risk of
fire but it cools as rock which is very hard. Also as the title gives away
you"ll make use of your first power; Jellify Water.

Jellify Water turns water into jelly (oddly enough) enabling you to move it
around and create paths through sea/river-beds. It also cancels out momentum
making things like tsunamis much less destructive.

Powers Available: Jellify Water.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Get People started on the first village and learn that the high sea
wall isn"t high enough to protect the site of the second village.

Step Two: Grab some lava from the volcano or that spot of lava that doesn"t
move and place it over the lowest gaps in the wall. Note that lava when placed
turns to rock and is virtually indestructible, very handy for battling the
tides. Once the wall is high enough populate the second village.

Step Three: Use lava to block off the water from around the stone which has
the repel water knowledge, just left of the lava pool. Send men to collect it,
building bridges and removing water where needed.

Step Four: Find the river source just South of the volcano and use lava to
redirect it to the West, away from most of the map. This will get rid of most
of the river splitting the map in half and reduce the tide.

Step Five: Either use jellify water (that turns water into jelly) to carve a
path to the third village off to the East, or my personal preference, create
a dam of lava just before the little ditch between the second village and the
rock which contains the repel water knowledge. This will provide a safe trouble
free path and plenty of land for vegetation while also giving a path for the
water to follow. Whatever the case send Men to start up the third village.

Step Six: Send men to the passage use jellifty water, and then remove any
water, to safely guide Men across the river.

################################100% Vegetation################################

To get 100% vegetation block off the main route which water flows through (see
Step Five above) you can then create a second dam further down, remove the
water and you"ve got a lot of land to use. Use Jellify water to lessen the
impact tsunamis will have on your newly created unprotected low-lands. Be sure
to spread plenty of sand around as the level as it is mostly rock, the volcano
will provide a continuous stream of sand to use. On that note be careful of
connecting the island side with villages on to the side that has the volcano
on it, because trees will burn and fire spreads quickly.

Unlocks Memories;
50%- Geology: The tsunami
100%- Territories: The first power, Challenge: Sacrifice.

###############################################################################
** The Thousand Sources [THSU]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

This peaceful haven calls us to rest.
Yet, the shaman senses the upheaval caused by the Ancients--
so terrible that they were forced to leave.
The desert is like a dead-calm sea, concealing perilous mysteries.

################################The Gimmick####################################

This level is a desert or at least at first glance. Just underneath the surface
are a thousand water sources (well maybe not that many but it"s the title).
Aside from the level being so wet it"s also so dry plants won"t grow unless you
water them. Oh and this is the début of "The Prickly” a plant men can"t walk
through but it protects against water.

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll gain the ability to Evaporate which will -well- evaporate
the water on the map. This will dry out rivers and lakes but sadly will only
stem the tide when it comes to water sources. This does make them very easy to
spot and stop water sources.

Powers Available: Jellify Water, Evaporate.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Dam up the three water sources with large helpings of sand and send
your men to start up the first village, directly North.

Step Two: Go East and send Men to the stone with the Repel Water knowledge.
Then head West and at the top of a rocky mound there will be a stone which has
a [Memory of the Tribe] in it.

Step Three: Head North East from the first village to find the second totem
pole, send men to populate it. You"ll need to build a ramp up out of soil,
chances are high that you"ll unplug a water source if you take sand anywhere
near the totem pole so take it from a distant place in the North to be safe.

Step Four: Go further East and you"ll spot the third and final village
surrounded by The Prickly. Create a path by removing the sand from the South
going North; as going from the West side will probably cause a water source
to spring up.

Step Five: Head over to the passage. If it"s surrounded by water you have
multiple possibilities; use Jellify water and carve a path to the passage,
use Evaporate to complete remove all water from the map or simply create a
bridge…you"ll probably need to do this when using the other methods because
it"s on a rock above the water level.

################################100% Vegetation################################

This is a very annoying level to get 100% vegetation on simply because you need
to water the plants themselves. Or do you? Sure you could spend your time
carefully picking up water and then releasing it on the border of your
tree-line, or you could find a source; block it up and then create a channel
so you control where it goes, un-block it and then make sure your vegetation
reaches the water. After that point it"ll grow along the whole route of the
river. If ever the amount of water gets out of control use Evaporate. Now it"s
just a case of playing plug up the source and attempting to spread the trees.
Don"t worry about your villages they can repel any water once you"ve picked up
the stone (see step two above).

Unlocks Memories;
50%- Vegetation: The tree of water
100%- Territories: The thousand sources, Challenge: Hell.

###############################################################################
**Wildfires [WDFR]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

On this island, strange trees have grown.
Some are inhabited by the breath of fire, some by the breath of water.
In the past, Ancients were able to extinguish the flames,
but the cycle commenced without end.
If we do not calm the breath of the plants, our journey will come to an end.

################################The Gimmick####################################

Fire and Water trees dot the landscape. Fire trees will set fire to any
vegetation that surrounds them and that almost always leads back to your
villages. While water trees will burst releasing water when something hot goes
near them (or when a lot of water rushes past them).

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll gain the ability to move around special trees, namely fire
trees and water fires. Each one having the attributes you"re probably
expecting. As such the level is more about forward planning, setting down water
-trees so they"ll put out fires and using fire trees to combat the encroaching
sea but being aware of where you"re planting them. You"ll also gain the power
‘Put Out Fire" which puts out all fires across the map.

Powers Available: Jellify Water, Evaporate, Put Out Fire.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Go straight North and get People to set up the first village.

Step Two: Now that you have the ability to move water trees place a few around
the choke points of your first village. Even note there is a red marker just
South of the village to give you an idea how to position them. Now colonise
the next village South West of the first.

Step Three: You"re being told to move your village, not a bad idea as that"s
in the middle of where all the forest fires will be. Press A on the totem pole
and then place the white template next to the red marker that has appears North
West of the original position. If you"re already on fire remember to use the
power Put Out Fire, it does exactly what it says on the tin love. Then just
North West of where you were supposed to put the second village there is a
stone with a [Memory of the Tribe] in it. After this level you"ll retain the
knowledge to move trees and totem poles, many people seem to forget that fact
after this level.

Step Four: Remember to place water plants to protect the second village then
send men to capture the third village; it"s on a rocky outcropping just West
of where the original location of the second village was. Also place water
plants to protect the village approach.

Step Five: Send men to final village which is to the South, it"s surrounded by
fire trees and there is a large lake in the way. Use Evaporate to create a
path. After you"ve set it up immediately remove all the fire trees in the area
and place them on some rock far away from vegetation.

Step Six: Now simply send Men the passage, keeping a look out of the totem pole
icons and screams to know if a village is on fire and whether you should
activate Put Out Fire.

################################100% Vegetation################################

After you"ve got the power to move Fire trees let"s move these bloody trees to
somewhere nicer. Note there are two groups of trees that are holding back the
tide, that"s a good thing, so just create a dam further down each of the paths
using the trees to stem the flow so the sand doesn"t get washed away.
Now evaporate the water to get rid of those lakes so you"ll have plenty of land
for vegetation to spread across.

**Waves[WAV1]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

On this living earth, there grow trees of water and trees of fire.
Why do they not fight each other this time? The Ancients do not say.
How can fire spread life? The Ancients do not say.

################################The Gimmick####################################

Water and Fire trees are back but a new plant, Exploding tree appears, these
-well- explode when anything hot touches them. Also the earth in this level is
constantly moving so beware of flooding. Also the land is very dry and plants
won"t grow unless watered.

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll gain the ability to move the last of the Elemental trees,
although I guess exploding isn"t really an element. At any rate these trees
will destroy rock walls and react to heat. You"ll also gain the new power
‘Amplify the Breath" which is extremely handy as it allows you to collect (and
dump) more matter than normal. To make the most out of it remember to
deactivate the power after you"ve collected the matter so it"ll recharge
quicker.

Powers Available: Jelify Water, Put Out Fire, Amplify the Breath.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Send People directly North to start up the first village now remove
all the water-trees near that and place them at the edge of the map.

Step Two: Go North past the second village and to the rock wall, note the water
-trees next to the fire trees, move them both to separate areas. Use Amplify
the Breath and collect a massive amount of soil and dam up the water when it is
on the opposite side of the map from the second village. Once you"ve done that
use Amplify the Breath again to create a path for the water to drain away.

Step Three: Establish the second village. Then send Men to get the Repel Water
Knowledge from the stone North West of the second village to make sure you"re
doubly safe. Before sending men to start up the third village North East of the
second.

Step Four: Send People to establish the fourth village. It"s on the far West
side of the map between rocks and it"s surrounded by Exploding trees. You"ll
probably need to drain the area of water first. Next head South East of the
fourth village and find another stone with the [Memory of the Tribe] in it;
it"s on a hill overlooking the village.

Step Five: You now have the ability to move Exploding trees; so find a low
point in the rock wall that is surrounding the passage to the North, place a
couple of Exploding trees (don"t be stingy, plenty to go around) then pick up
a fire tree and wave it next to the Exploding trees and watch the fireworks.
Now simply send Men to the passage to complete the level.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Like The Thousand Sources vegetation won"t grow unless it"s near water or
you"ve covered an area near vegetation with water. Unlike The Thousand Sources
there is no water source, only the water trees. Well first things first go to
the edge of the map and dig a ditch along the whole length, now collect all
the water trees you can find and place them just underneath the first village.
Pick up a load of water with Amplified Breath and release it all on the plants
to create a flood. This will travel along the whole ditch and trees will
follow. From there it"s just a case of watering the landscape around the ditch
liberally and causing the water trees to let loose their watery goodness.

I"ve since learned that the above method is a bit needlessly complicated but
I"m keeping it in because I recorded a video with it and I can"t be bothered
to change that. All you really need to do is spread water around with the water
trees and because there are a few patches of trees already dotted about the
map you"ll probably gain 50% of vegetation without even trying. My method of
removing all the water at the start of the map and then moving all the water
trees is actually detrimental to plant growing, but handy if you just want to
complete the level.

**High Tides [HGTD]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

Once, the island surfed the waves,
and the Ancients left traces of themselves within reach of man.
When they left, the earth submerged itself in sorrow,
opening the way for the sea.

################################The Gimmick####################################

The gimmick is that there are high-tides. Basically it"s like having a
mini-tsunami every minute. The starting village will always be safe though so
no need to worry.

#################################New Powers####################################

In this level you"ll gain two new powers, Infinite Earth and Engulf All.
Infinite Earth is almost as cool as it sounds as it"ll give you the ability to
create as much earth as you want, but for a limited amount of time. Engulf All
sucks up all matter it touches and makes it disappear. It"s probably the worse
power in the game as it doesn"t work on rock and it"s only handy when you want
to empty out a "breath made lake”.

Powers Available:Jellify Water, Amplify the Breath, Infinite Earth, Engulf All.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Go West and establish the village with the power to Jellify water.
You shouldn"t need to create a bridge (don"t try the current is too strong)
just wait for the tide to be at its lowest point and your People should be able
to cross. If they still can"t then you can create a little bridge. Use Amplify
the Breath to hurry along the amount of water draining from the central basin.

Step Two: Send Men to pick up the Repel Water knowledge from the stone just
North of the second village.

Step Three: When the tide lowers enough again use Jellify Water and conquer the
village right in the middle of the map/basin. Once you"ve captured it use
Infinite Earth straight away and built up the village higher than the water
line. Also create a path so the knowledge of repel water will get passed to
this village. Make use of Amplify the Breath to increase the amount of water
you can remove when the water is Jellified and when you"re using Infinite
Earth.

Step Four: Use Infinite Earth to raise the fourth Village (North East) above
the dangerous seas and then colonise it.

Step Five: South West of the second village, off shore, the passage hides
submerged. Use Infinite Earth to create a path and Jellify Water when the
tide comes rushing in to reduce the impact.

################################100% Vegetation################################

To get 100% Vegetation is rather easy on this level. Once you"ve gained
Infinite Earth (see step three above) us it and Amplify the Breath to create
massive banks of sand at the chock points of the level. Then drain the lakes
left using Engulf All and you"ll get 100% in no time.

**The Tears of Stone [TTOS]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

The Ancients once settled on this shore of fire.
Since then, the volcano has had its way with the land,
but one can still manipulate what cannot be mastered.

################################The Gimmick####################################

Lava, lava everywhere and Explosive trees to boot. Also there is a water source
to the North East. Periodically the volcano at the centre of the map will erupt
along with the lava sources surrounding it. Needless to say you shouldn"t be
attempting to start up villages or trying to cross the area below it when it"s
erupting. After setting up the fourth village the volcanoes will stop and
you"ll be treated with some flooding, which at least is a change.

#################################New Powers####################################

Nothing new in this map.

Available Powers: Jellify Water, Put Out Fire, Amplify the Breath, Engulf All.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Set up the first village directly north from the starting position.
Go slightly east to your starting position. Where the lava forks dam up the
West side with lava and send Men to collect the stone with the knowledge to
repel lava.

Step Two: Go directly North from the first village up until you hit another
fork in the lava, dam up the left side with lava and send men to set up the
second village, which is further to the west. You may need to create a ramp
so Men can gain access.

Step Three: Place a couple of exploding plants on the dam you just created
(North of the first village) and dam up the East side this time. (Waiting for
knowledge to past from village to village of course.) Now set up the third
village, East of the first and in the shadow of the volcano. Depending on what
is going on you may want to build a couple of lava dams or just wait a while.
Also send Men North and around the volcano to find a stone with the [Memory of
the Tribe] in it.

Step Four: Keep going East after the third village and send Men to collect the
repel water knowledge from the stone. The ease of this really does depend on
what is going on, you may want to create a dam to redirect lava flow to the
west of the village before doing this.

Step Five: Blow the wall that is keeping the fourth village submerged up in the
North East corner with a bunch of exploding trees. Then use Amplify the Breath,
scoop up a bunch of lava and plug the water source that is submerged in the
next little bowl like area next to where the fourth village is.
Now go capture it.

Step Six: Beware the flooding, once you"ve got all four villages the volcanoes
will calm down for a while but the heavens will open and will flood the land.
Unfortunately your People probably didn"t have time to spread the repel water
knowledge to the last village so you"ll have to repopulate if that was the
case, after the flood have died down. Then simply head to the passage, using
Jellify water to ease your escape.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Getting 100% vegetation is easy on this map. From the far West village simply
make sure the you"ve have sand linking the village to the sand below it and
then from there make sure you have sand linking the lower area to the great
expanse of sand above, this will occasional catch on fire but your villages
will be fine and you do have the Put Out Fire power if you"re that worried.

** The Raging Earth [TRET]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

Here the earth split apart, and the two halves live separately.
The Ancients planted their totems on each half.
Are we to understand that neither half is superior?

################################The Gimmick####################################

Volcanoes and lava on left of you, water sources and rivers on the right.
Men stuck in the middle …clowns nowhere to be, there we are.

On the left two volcanoes will pop up and erupt ruining your day if you"re not
careful. Also take note of the lava source directly behind the first village,
take too long and that"ll be a problem. While on the right the water source
will occasionally flood but this is less and issue.

#################################New Powers####################################

Nothing new on this map.

Available Powers:Jellify Water, Amplify the Breath, Infinite Earth, Engulf All.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Found the first village directly to the north of the starting
position. While Men are doing that build a lava wall along the course of the
mountain just to the West of the village to protect it and the vegetation that
is soon to populate the area. Not too high mind, we need to get over there at
some point.

Step Two: Use Amplify the Breath and collect a large amount of lava and go
north to the source of all this damn water and build up the walls. Find the
stone with the repel lava knowledge and look just above it, dam that area so
the water will flow to the East and give Men easy access.

Step Three: Send men to get the repel lava knowledge and also to found the
village just below the large water basin. Build up some lava dams just to be
on the safe side. After doing this head South of the lava repel stone to find
another stone with [Memory of the Tribe] in it, it"ll be on a sandy bit near
the edge of the map.

Step Four: Find the two volcanoes that are active on the West side of the mp
(note only one will be active at the start). Get some exploding plants and
place them on the side away from the majority of the map, make them explode
and build some walls on the East side just to be doubly sure. This will stop
a lot of the lava flow. The exploding plants are just south of the volcanoes.

Step Five: Establish the third village just South of the first (and starting
position). Creating lava dams where necessary.

Step Six: Send Men to start up the fourth village and to collect the repel
water knowledge. This one is a little tricky as it depends on the timing of
the eruptions and you"ll need to create a large slope so Men can reach the
other side of the mountain ridge.

Step Seven: Reach the passage which is in the large water basin at the North
of the map. You"ve got a few options here, use Infinite Earth to create a
bridge, use Jellify water to create a path or Engulf All to remove the water
from the equation completely…well until the next flood at any rate.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Once you get Infinite Earth from the fourth village (see step Six above) this
is a cake walk. Simply cover the area in sand and plants will grow. Be careful
not to get too close to lava or you"ll be dealing with fires. Even if you do
your villages will survive against fire and water always giving you the chance
to come back fighting.

**Emergence [EMGE]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

There is no earth: have we reached the end of our journey?
But no, a passage opens up before us. There!
A cataclysm has taken place, but rebirth is always possible.

################################The Gimmick####################################

The map is a vast ocean the only resources at the moment are the two volcanoes.
One will provide you with lava the other with sand until it turns into a water
source. Later in the level tsunamis will appear.

#################################New Powers####################################

Nothing new on this map.

Available Powers: Jellify water, Amplify the Breath, Infinite Earth.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Go North East and establish your first village with the power to
Amplify the Breath, you"ll need to scoop up sand and lava (anything you can
get really) to create both the path and the land necessary to start the
village. Be sure to follow the shallows to save time and matter…not that the
matter matters as the volcanoes will give you an unlimited supply.

Step Two: While Men start up the first village; from the West of the starting
island create a path to the stone that houses the repel water knowledge. After
the village is set up Tsunamis will appear; so once you"re ready send somebody
to collect the stone.

Step Three: After collecting the stone use the Amplify the Breath power and
create a path to the village North of the one you just set up. Set it up
quickly and the knowledge to repel water will protect both villages. While
you"re there collect the stone that houses the ability to repel lava.

Step Four: After the tsunami set up links to the third and final village by
building bridges. If you want your bridges to be sturdy enough to stand against
the tide, use lava to build them. While you"re at it look directly South of
your first village and underneath the water there is a stone with a [Memory
of the Tribe] engraved on it.

Step Five: From the final village that has Infinite Earth head North West to
find the passage and build up a bridge to it. Be careful of tsunamis ruining
your bridges so either use copious amounts of sand or lava to make them. Make
use of Jellify water as well to lessen the impact of tsunamis.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Again having Infinite Earth makes short work of getting 100% vegetation.
Simply create a few large islands and make sure everything is linked up. The
only problem is the tsunamis washing away vegetation and the sand so use lava
to solidify sections of your archipelago so you won"t have to rebuild from the
base again. Or just pile up large mountains of sand and use Jellify water;
which dramatically reduces the power of a tsunami.

** Movements [MOVT]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

All the cycles at work converge on us; it lies within us to cultivate them.

################################The Gimmick####################################

This is the tough one; you"re placed in a massive bowl of an extinct volcano;
in the middle of it lays the remains of it, spewing up lava. Periodically it
will rain and flood the land, because there is nowhere for the water to go
it"ll just build up flooding all the land. After you"ve started all four
villages several sources of lava will appear at the edges of the map.

#################################New Powers####################################

Nothing new on this map.

Available Powers: Jellify Water, Evaporate, Amplify the Breath, Infinite Earth.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: Establish the first village directly West of the starting position,
now quickly move all the water trees up on top of the rim of the map. You"ll
have more than enough water in 30 seconds trust me. Build up the height of you
village as much as you can using sand and you should survive the first flood.

Step Two: Build a bridge to the repel lava stone just West of the first village
and collect it. While doing this use Amplify the Breath and pick up a load of
lava. Create a wall surrounding the South, West and East side of the volcano
so it only spills in the Northerly direction. Use exploding trees to help,
some are found just South of the starting position. Be careful your village
doesn"t get burned in the meantime.

Step Three: Start up the village on the other side of the volcano. The one with
the Evaporate Power. Be sure that the volcano is only letting lava flow
Northwards and repair any cracks in your dyke. On a special note remember you
can still move your villages if you want or if you"re having a hard time, but
it isn"t necessary.

Step Four: Once you"ve set up the second village use Evaporate and wait until
the knowledge to repel lava is passed on. Then set up the next village to the
West with the power of Infinite Earth. You"ll probably need to create a bridge
to reach it. This will cause almost all the sides of the area to spew out lava,
oops.

Step Five: Redirect all the lava flows you can so they flow outside the map,
use lava walls, Infinite Earth and exploding trees to make life easier. Oh and
using Amplify the Breath when you"re depositing lava as well as picking it up
will create really large mounts perfect for redirecting. This may take a while
to complete. While doing this you may want to increase the height of your
villages to protect against further flooding.

Step Six: Establish the final village to the North East with the power to
Jellify Water and then head through the passage that is just by the second
village in the centre of the map.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Use Evaporate and simply cover the map with Infinite Earth. If your trees catch
fire that fire will just keep going around and around the map so wait until the
next rainfall so it"ll flood most of the area. Be sure that your villages are
high enough to withstand any floods and you"ll be golden.

**Origins [ORG1]
###############################################################################

###################################Intro#######################################

And here we are, as on the first day! Here where it all began.
But where is the land of the Ancients?
Without it, we cannot long survive.
Ah! The Ancients have left us their powers.
It is up to us to create the land we lack.

#################################New Powers####################################

To save my time (and yours) just scroll down for a full list of powers you get
for this level.

################################The Gimmick####################################

This is the end but also the beginning. There is nothing here but you now have
the power to do almost everything.

##############################The Necessary Steps##############################

Step One: With your new found power press A in the centre of the stone to
create your first village.

Step Two: You now have the power of Earth. RT to create, LT to remove. Tap Y
to create a mountain, hold Y to raise a really large mountain. Tap B to create
a sink hole, hold B to create a larger sink hole. Once you"ve done playing
around set up another village by pressing A on a large piece of land you"ve
created.

Step Three: Now you"ve got the power of lava RT to create lava LT to remove
Lava. Note that remove lava doesn"t work on rock but you can remove it by
using the B power. Y creates a lava source, holding Y creates an exploding
volcano. Tap B on a lava source to remove it. Holding B creates a large section
of the land to drop…very similar to the Earth power just lower. Be careful
not to set your villages alight because you won"t get the power to repel Lava
and Water until step six.

Step Four: Played with fire enough? Create a third village, to gain the power
of water. RT creates water while LT removes it. Tap Y to create a source and
WARNING hold Y to create a Tsunami, it"ll come from the south so build up
some banks on that side to save your villages. Tap B on a water source to
remove it. Hold B to cause the sea to have a tidal motion, holding B again
will fix the sea level at that point. If you remove all the water be careful
because if you have any active volcanoes or lava sources then you run the risk
of fire.

Step Five: Once you"ve almost destroyed your land with a tsunami create another
village giving you the power of plants. RT is to plant plants, LT is to remove
plants. Tap Y to create Element trees (cycles between Fire, Water and
Explosive) hold Y to spread plants across the surface. Tapping B removes an
Element tree and holding B removes all the plants in an area.

Step Six: Once you"ve played around enough and have all four villages you can
create the passage. Once you do the earth will start to give way so place it
near a village and hurry up to get your People out of there to complete the
game. All your villages will now have the power to repel lava and water though
so there isn"t really any rush but it"s a bit of a pain.

For ease of access here is the list of powers on the level;

Breath of Earth
LT: ‘Duniani" = Remove earth
RT: ‘Dakdun"= Create earth
Tap Y: ‘Bukit" = Raise earth
Y long: ‘Atas" =Raise large area of earth.
Tap B: ‘Lubang" =Lower earth.
B long: ‘Jurang"= Lower large area of earth.

Breath of Lava
LT: ‘Api" = Remove lava.
RT: ‘Dak-api" = Create lava.
Tap Y: ‘Pahan api" = Create lava source
Y Long: ‘Gunung berapi" = Create volcano
Tap B: ‘Dak pahan" = Remove lava source
B long: ‘Kawah" = Lower ground.

Breath of Water
LT: ‘Aiir" = Remove water.
RT: ‘Dak aiir" = Create water.
Tap Y: ‘Aiir sumber" = Create water source.
 Y long:"Gelombang" = Create tsunami.
Tap B: ‘Dak sumber" = Create tides. Hold again to stop and make the sea level
hold.
B long: ‘Aiirsurut" = Remove all water.

Breath of Plants
LT: ‘Tanaman" = Remove plants.
RT: ‘Dak tanaman" = Create plants.
Tap Y: ‘Pahan" = Create Element tree (cycles between fire, water and explosive
trees).
Y long: ‘Adewi Yulianti" = Cover a large area with plants.
Tap B: ‘Dak pohon" = Remove Element tree.
B long: ‘Dak Dewi" = Remove a large area of plants.

################################100% Vegetation################################

Getting 100% vegetation has never been so easy. Remove all water by holding B
while water power is selected and then with the plant power hold Y and done.
Well done you.

Challenges [CLLG]
###############################################################################

----------The Basics [CH00]

So challenges will unlock as you progress through the game, you"ll get your
first batch after completing the level ‘The Roar of the Sea". I"ve listed what
you need to do to gain each challenge. Most of the time it"s really just
completing a level, or getting 100% vegetation on a level, not very difficult.

Bonus time is the time between the end of the challenge and when you last used
your powers and it"s deducted from your overall time. Some missions you"ll be
able to gain quite a bonus other levels, not so much. Note that picking up
matter isn"t deemed a power but dropping is.

To further the challenge of the, ahem, challenges the developers decided to
limit what you can and can"t pick up. So some levels you"ll only be able to
handle lava and others trees. To mix things up they"ll throw in powers too.
Frankly they do come up with some very interesting puzzles for us to solve.
A rather interesting glitch in the challenges is that you can move your cursor
when the level is loading. Between the actual loading screen and the time the
level shows up with information about it, there will be a time when the screen
is black; during this time you can get in position or pick up matter before the
clock starts. Not terribly useful as you can"t see what you"re doing and you
don"t have a lot of time to do anything but if you ever find yourself wanting
that extra second there it is.

After completing a challenge you"ll sometimes be given the chance to see what
happens next. You won"t be able to do anything as the clock runs down and it
won"t count in any way towards your time but sometimes it"s nice to see how
close your little People were close to death. To end this at any point simply
press A.

Oh and note I in no way claim to be the fastest or for these methods to be
the fastest way to complete the challenges but if you follow them you will
finish the challenges and that can be hard enough some of the time.

----------Fire! [CH01]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: True story: the sequel to From Dust will be a water-bomber simulation.

This is an easy one to start out with. Fires are spreading along a line of
vegetation which is on a slope. The only power you have is the ability to move
water so take the hint. Quickly grab all the water you can and dump it all in
one go (pressing RT then LT) at the top of the slope to put out the line of
fire. After that quickly follow the coast and put out the small fire on patch
of earth just below the pool of lava.

----------Running in the rain [CH02]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: The lifeguard is strict: No running around the pool.

There is a straight path between People and the village. Quickly press A on the
totem pole to make them start their journey. In their way are six rocky diverts
which will periodically see a stream of water run down them. Now the first and
last two aren"t bad as you can suck up all the water that they release, the
middle two however release too much for you to avoid it washing your people
away. The difficultly lies in getting your people across the water in one
group, if a couple get ahead then you"ll have to try to stop two water flows at
the same time; so don"t let it happen, purposely use the water to block Men
from getting too far ahead.

It"s at this point when you realize the path finding is going to be an issue
for these challenges.

----------Bail Out [CH03]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: A tsunami would be far less dangerous with no water around.

This challenge is easy but the time-limit is very strict. Quickly go up the
mountain until you find the stone with the power to repel water and send Men to
gather the knowledge. The only catch is that its submerged by a lot of water
but if you start picking it up and dropping it over the side as soon as you can
you"ll be able to get rid of the water before your man turns up to claim the
stone. Now you"ll have a scant few seconds for your guy to get down the hill
and pass on the knowledge

----------The Big Wave [CH04]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water and Earth.

Hint: The sharing of knowledge is primordial to all human undertakings.

Quickly Send Men to collect the knowledge to repel water. Once the first
village has gained the knowledge it"ll send out two runners to the remaining
villages. So you"ve got to clear one path of The Prickly and provide a route
across the water for the other. The solution is clear, rip out the earth below
the prickly to make a path and use that soil to create a bridge across the
water to the other village. Or you can just remove the water from one path and
use the soil to continue the path across the prickly. Really you"ve got enough
time to do both without worrying too much. Speaking of time this is a good
level to come to grips with bonus time as after you"ve set up the paths there
is nothing for you to do, so don"t do anything and get a good time-bonus.

----------Canyoning [CH05]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: It"s time to remember all the details about your last vacation to
Colorado.

When you enter the level one of the People will be oh so close to getting the
knowledge to repel water but alas there is no way in hell he"ll make it down
that twisty rocky path before the tsunami hits. The solution is to pick up a
load of water and dump it on the guy just after he"s collected the knowledge
(his kite will turn blue when he has it, DON"T do it before then) and this will
send the poor fellow flying off the side of the mountain, down a slope and
almost right to the village. To speed up the process suck up the water once
he"s at the bottom but don"t drop it again to keep the bonus time.

----------Pump it up [CH06]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Earth Only

Hint: Achimedes would have loved this challenge.

At the bottom of a valley is a village and fast encroaching is a wall of
flames, what"s a guy to do? Well collect a large amount of soil and drop it all
at once in one of the rocky basins to cause the water to slosh out. One big
ball of earth in each of the basins is normally enough to protect the village.
You may want to dig a ditch around the village and use that to put in the water
but it isn"t really necessary because the village has repel water so the water
will naturally create a wall along the side of the village.

----------Xuenylom [CH07]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Lava Only

Hint:This challenge is a well-disguised homage to one of our main inspirations.

This challenge is pretty evil. At first glance it may look like you"ve got to
get the power to repel water from the first village to the three on the other
side of the map while somehow getting the water to put out the fires before
they reach them. But no; the solution is to pick up some lava and dump it right
on the first village, this will destroy it causing it"s power to repel water to
fail and so the flow will stop the flames without any more help.

The moral is; always read the description of the challenge…and don"t have any
morals.

----------Aquasplash [CH08]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: If you swim in dangerous waters, you eventually meet a shark.

Quickly send somebody to get the power to repel water from the other side of
the island. You"ll want to be continually taking water out of the basin at the
top of the map and throwing it over the side, while keeping an eye on the three
paths the water will eventually run down. Now I"ve managed to keep the water
from overflowing until the guy has picked up the knowledge and past the first
gully but after that point it"ll probably be wiser for you to re-enact the
second challenge "Running in the Rain” to complete it.

----------Waterfall [CH09]

Unlocks After: Starting "The roar of the sea"

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: A child would have loved it; the shaman a lot less.

Like ‘Canyoning" the trick is to dump a large ball of water on the poor guy
trying to pass knowledge. This time however the slope is a bit bumpier and
this guy is probably going to get stuck half-way down the mountain. To save
time you"re going to want to capture the same water you using on him in the
first place. So after you"ve drenched him and he"s gone as far as he will go,
pick up the water that"s ahead of him rushing down the side of the mountain,
then drown him again until he reaches the bottom. Finally pick up all the water
at the bottom of the hill so he"ll have easy access to the village.

----------Guardian Angel [CH10]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "The Roar of the Sea”.

Breath Capacity: Totems Only

Hint: With great power comes great responsibility.

A very simple challenge, pick up the totem on the right side of the map (the
one with repel lava oddly enough) and place it right in the way of the lava
that"ll engulf the village at the bottom of the map. This will either stop the
lava or give enough time for the passing of knowledge to happen, which will
complete the level. When placing the totem pole place it somewhere in the
middle of the clearing and not too far up or down so the village will be set
up quickly and will still protect the second village against the lava.

----------Explosions [CH11]

Unlocks After: Starting "The First Power”.

Breath Capacity: Trees Only.

Hint: Cinematic references abound in the challenge mode. They"ll seem obvious
in retrospect.

You can complete this level in only one move. Right at the top of the lava flow
there is a low part of the wall on the left side. Simply place the exploding
tree on that sweet spot and you"ll complete the level in no time. Just wait
for the guy to bring the knowledge and your bonus time will cancel out most of
your time.

----------Sacrifice [CH12]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "The First Power”.

Breath Capacity: Earth Only.

Hint: Solving this challenge feels oddly like trading-in for a brand new car…

Arrgghhh I hate this challenge, in fact this was the last challenge for me to
complete and we all know what to do right? Simply take the sand from under the
first village and create a path to the repel water knowledge, easy but with the
limited sand supply and with the annoying path finding its very annoying. Make
sure you keep in one place when collecting sand, so you"ll get some of the sand
under the surface as well. If you run out of sand then you"re probably creating
the path too high, it needs to be just above the surface to reach but you can
get a bit more sand from the second village.

First off take a large ball of sand from the centre of the village and use it
to create a path over to the next village, you should get two balls of sand out
of the centre this way and you"ll have to take one from the edge to complete
the path. You"ll probably have a bit left over to start on the path to the
repel water stone too. Now is the time to try to send somebody to collect the
stone. You should get one more ball of sand out of the village before it is
destroyed. Once it is destroyed don"t worry and keep taking sand from it and
the path to the other village to complete the path to the repel water stone.
Keep an eye on the path of the guy going for the stone, if he is still at the
first village then A) don"t remove the path or B) if you already have removed
the path then cancel the call to the stone and try again to see if it won"t
switch to somebody more suitable. Oh and don"t fall asleep after you"ve
collected the knowledge, for some reason my guys always seem to have problems
going back along the path they just already used, thankfully at this point you
can use the path behind them to help them out.

----------Gospel [CH13]

Unlocks After: Starting "The Thousand Sources".

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Powers: Jellify Water.

Hint: Singing while playing this challenge won"t help you win, but it might
amuse your friends.

Send somebody to collect the repel lava knowledge from the stone. Only problem
is, it"s under water. There is far too much water to dish out normally. So use
Jellify water when he gets close and make a path to the stone. Time it just
right and he"ll make it out before the water returns to normal. Don"t forget to
leave everything alone after he"s got the stone to make the most of your bonus
time.

----------Hell [CH14]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "The Thousand Sources”.

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Hint: Any fireman will tell you that there are as [many] forms of fire as there
are to fight them.

The trick of this challenge is to start on the left side of the map and scoop
up the water in the bowl furthest from the village. Wait until just before the
fire reaches the part of the map where there is a ditch to collect water before
dropping the water. Now quickly collect the remaining water and head over to
the other side of the map, in the centre the rock from the bottom squishes the
amount of vegetation, drop all your water there to extinguish that row of
flames. There may be a little bit of fire left, if that"s the case quickly
douse the flames for they"ll spread like - well- wildfires.

----------Fluids [CH15]

Unlocks After: Starting "Wildfires”.

Breath Capacity: Earth Only.

Powers: Amplify the Breath.

Hint: Unfortunately, fire does not extinguish water.

Now there are two methods to completing this level. Both methods require you to
send somebody to get the knowledge from the stone soon as and create a bridge
to that island though.

The first one is the most obvious I think, there is a load of pools that link
with each other, with careful manipulation you can alter the course of the
river building up banks and removing soil from those rocky sections to create
a long twisty river before the water will reach your village. Finally build a
massive bank to keep the water at bay. Allowing enough time for the guy to get
back and pass knowledge just before the water overcomes the barrier.

The second one is a bit odd as it requires you to flood a small section of your
village to succeed, so I don"t think it was as the developers intended but it
is quicker and involves less work. Damn up the rocky pool on the right side
(the side closest to the stone) and from the left pool create a gully of dirt
along so it falls out into the sea. Build up a river bank which will go
straight through your village and you won"t have to worry about anything until
the map floods.

----------Collapse [CH16]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Wildfires”.

Breath Capacity: Lava Only.

Hint: This is how they make reinforced steel. For real!

So straight away pick up a large ball of lava. Zoom out of the map and quickly
draw a line in the sand with it. You don"t need to drop much lava at all; just
a slight squeeze is all you need. Shortly afterwards the sand will start to
give way so pick up another ball of lava and continue the path to the village.
You don"t want to send men to the totem pole too soon because they"ll walk
across the sand and get washed away so wait until the start of the sand gets
washed away before calling them.

----------Epic Tsunamis [CH17]

Unlocks After: Starting "Waves”.

Breath Capacity: Earth Only.

Powers: Infinite Earth, Amplify the Breath.

Hint: This challenge will answer the ancient question: is it better to take an
uppercut from a boxer, or ten thousand left hooks from grandma?

Again two methods to complete this challenge but one is a lot easier and will
net you a better time.

The first method involves using Infinite Earth and Amplify the Breath to create
banks along the hills. You"ll need to block off quite a few routes to your
villages for this to work but it does work.

That method was devised when I was still thinking about 100% vegetation, a much
easier way is to just build up your villages to the height of the surrounding
hills. One Infinite Earth/Amplify the Breath combo is enough to do that for one
village and you have enough recharge time to do the second village before the
first tsunami hits. After that point you can sit back and watch the bonus
points add up.

----------Ditch [CH18]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Waves”.

Breath Capacity: Explosive trees only.

Hint: Tactics from the Middle Ages can sometimes prove to be quite useful in
a primitive and imaginary world.

Easy challenge this one; simply create a line of explosive trees behind the two
water trees and another (shorter) line towards the oncoming fire. One the fire
hits the first explosive tree it"ll cause a chain reaction that"ll lead back to
the water trees and fill the titular ditch.

----------Countdown [CH19]

Unlocks After: Starting "High Tides”.

Breath Capacity: Earth Only.

Hint: Plumbers know it sometimes takes brute force to stop a leak.

Simply use Infinite earth and Amplify the Breath together and build up the two
villages. They"re right next to each over so your best bet is to just quickly
go back and forth between them so they"ll both evenly be built up and protected
from the flood.

----------Migration [CH20]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "High Tides”.

Breath Capacity: Earth and Totem.

Hint: There are some things you just can"t protect yourself against.

Select the totem of the village and move it to the centre of large basin of
sand on the opposite side of a large cliff. Now build up the height of the
original village and create a bridge to the new location. Get really annoyed at
your Men for being so picky about what they will climb up. Once the village is
set up remove on the sides of the basin to let water in and wait for the
volcano to appear. Hopefully you"re completely surrounded by water now and you
won"t have any worries about catching fire or lava for that matter.

----------Nitro [CH21]

Unlocks After: Starting "Tears of Stone”.

Breath Capacity: Trees Only.

Hint: Spilling the beans is your quickest way to defeat.

Again a rather easy level to see what you need to do but the hard part is in
the execution. I find the best way to ensure all the fire being put out is to
create a V shape of exploding trees in the valley bowl the village lays in.
With the left side of the V starting at the bowl containing water closest to
the fire and the right side on the bowl of water furthest away from the fire.
This will release loads of water and also channel the water so it"ll protect
your village. The only problem with this method is that sometimes it can be
too successful and ironically destroy your village.

It"s worth noting that The Prickly burns a bit faster than normal vegetation
which is why this level works at all.

----------Quicksand [CH22]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Tears of Stone”.

Breath Capacity: Lava Only.

Hint: You better hope your tribe isn"t claustrophobic.

Just like ‘Collapse" the sand will disappear but putting lava on-top of it will
create a barrier from the encroaching sea. Unlike ‘Collapse" you have to
protect the village and it"s surrounded by trees; so you"ve got to quickly draw
an outline of the village without setting any off fires and before the
sink-holes appear. If you end up solidifying a section when it"s beginning to
sink more than likely it won"t be high enough. Start at the round end of the
village as that"s where the sink holes will first appear, before moving onto
the annoying pointy protruding vegetation section.

----------Atlantis [CH23]

Unlocks After: Starting "The Raging Earth”.

Breath Capacity: Earth and Totem.

Hint: The big question is: where in the world did they go?

Two methods again, one is the way you"re meant to do it, the other is a bit of
a cheat. Both are pretty hard.

Of course the first way to do it is to move your village to each island that
appears out of the sea, bridging the gap with sand from the large island until
you can reach the large island. At first this seems like an easy task but as
the challenge progresses the time between the islands rising and sinking is
getting shorter until the last two moves are very tight. The trick is after
you"ve built the bridge for the current island you"ve already started on the
bridge for the next. For the very last move I would recommend creating an
extension of the large island so you can build your village quicker. Oh and be
sure to move your villages as soon as you can, it takes 5 seconds to build a
village but the real problem is getting your Men to where you placed it in
time.

The second one is harder really, as it"s a bit tricky to pull off, but it"ll
net you a large bonus time. Build the first bridge and move your village to the
second island as normal but instead of building a straight bridge to the third
island create a large block of sand so you can build your village off the
actual rocky island and partly on your newly created land. Don"t think you can
plant enough sand so you"ll be able to build it complete on the sandy part but
good luck to you if you think you can manage it. Once the rocky island drops
it"ll submerge half your island but if you placed it just right the totem pole
and the other half of your village will stay on the sandy part. Like I said not
the easiest thing to pull off and getting water trapped in your sand island
will make it so you can"t build your village on that part.

----------Irony [CH24]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "The Raging Earth”.

Breath Capacity: Lava Only.

Hint: A moving plea for cooperation among peoples.

On one side the village has the power to repel water the other the power to
repel lava, only they"ll each get destroyed by the other element if you don"t
do something. Scoop up a large amount of lava and build bridges across the two
swallow expanses of water. Remember to burn the line of prickly as well.
When your men reach the half-way mark there will be an explosion which will
probably destroy your two paths so rebuild them with lava again and you should
make it with plenty of time to spare.

----------Drill [CH25]

Unlocks After: Starting "Emergence”.

Breath Capacity: Water and Earth.

Powers: Engulf All.

Hint: After this challenge, you will make the perfect Dutchman.

Another level with an easy concept but a pain in the arse to actually do, well
for me it is at any rate. You"ve got to create a barrier between the pool with
the stone in it and the sea. Then use Engulf All to remove all the water so
somebody can go fetch the stone. The only problem is that time is so tight and
the path-finding is so annoying that more often than not you"ll fail this
challenge. If you do it the way you"re meant to do it at any rate.

The way you"re meant to do it. Quickly scoop up a pile of sand and then lay a
thin barrier along the shallows (closer to the insider edge the better) once
done use engulf all (around the 55 second mark) to suck out all the water and
once the water level is really low hover over the stone (while still using
Engulf All) and call somebody to fetch the knowledge. Don"t do it before then
because they"ll just run around the sides and then you won"t have a chance in
hell. You should just make it, with the tsunami literally about to destroy the
village.

Or my lazy way; simply pile up enough sand on the stone until it is above the
water line and now create a path to it. Sand will get a bit tight but you can
do it provided you keep the path along the shallows low. I find this to be
quicker too, so win-win.

----------Sunken Secret [CH26]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Emergence”.

Breath Capacity: Earth and Vegetation.

Powers: Amplify the Breath.

Hint: This challenge is reserved for infrastructure engineering graduates.

Grab a pile of soil and dump it on the water source at the top of the map.
Now build a bridge to the island with the stone on it and after sending
somebody to collect build up the soil under the stone until it"s higher than
the water and then build a bridge to that.

Or block the water source, then block off the waterfall closest to the fire
tree. After this quickly use the ability to plant rows of trees so fire will
spread to the explosive trees and drain the water from the basin. This makes
the building a bridge to the stone unnecessary but may wash away part of your
bridge back to the village. However build that bridge high enough and you"ll
get a lot of bonus time.

----------Trees of Water [CH27]

Unlocks After: Starting "Movements”.

Breath Capacity: Earth Only.

Powers: Amplify the Breath.

Hint: The person who created this challenge is a domino fan who ran out of
dominos.

Another challenge with two ways to do it, the way I suspect you"re meant to do
it, and the quick way.

First the way you"re meant to do it. Surround your village digging a ditch and
raise up the village so when the wave of water hits it"ll miss the village but
also create a moat around it saving it for the fire that is still approaching.

Or the other way is to simply rush over the mountain to where the fire is and
rip up the soil where the flames are and then pile up the sand you"ve just
ripped on onto any other flames to put them out. Do this until to all the fire
and you"ve managed to bypass the whole challenge as far as I"m concerned.

----------Deadly Crossing [CH28]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Movements”.

Breath Capacity: Trees, Lava, Earth.

Hint: If this challenge reminds you of your vacation in Colorado again, you
are INCREDIBLY LUCKY to be alive to play this game.

Send Men to the totem pole and once they"re half way plant the explosive tree
on the right side of the dam and now build the left side so they can reach the
pole. Use lava as the base and then sand on the top so your People can easily
get across the bridge. It is possible to plug up the water source with lava in
the large water basin to make life a bit easier but it isn"t really needed.

----------Wagons of Fire [CH29]

Unlocks After: Starting "Origins”.

Breath Capacity: Water Only.

Powers: Jellify water.

Hint: Fire is blind, and no dogs to help out.

This one is probably the most difficult to figure out the timing so don"t feel
too bad if you"re stumped.

First scoop up some water and dump it on the water trees closest to the fire
tree, this will make them release the stored water long before the fire
reaches them. Now do the same for the water trees in the basin further down
the path. Quickly remove as much water as you can from that bowl. Once the fire
reaches the peak of the hill where the first water trees are; use Jellify water
and scoop up a path between the two islands on the Northern side. Once the fire
had made it onto the next island immediately cancel Jellify water and keep
scooping out the basin. When the fire is climbing the slope into the basin with
water in it use Jellify Water again (it should have recharged by now) and
create a path through the basin and the deep channel separating this island
from the one with the village on it. While waiting for the fire to reach the
explosive trees create a barrier of jellified water to protect your village
(remember to do both sides) and after the explosion cancel the power and send
somebody to collect the stone. You"ll need to do all this in one take so if you
mess up at any point its best just to restart.

----------Descent [CH30]

Unlocks After: Gaining 100% Vegetation in "Origins".

Breath Capacity: Earth, Water, Lava and Totems.

Powers: Infinite Earth.

Hint: You"ll have to play hard and raise the volume to win this challenge.

Personally this is my favourite challenge; because it feels almost like a
complete level and it"s a shame that there weren"t more like this but anyway.

Relocate the first village higher up the cliff side to stop it from being
flooded. While men are doing that send them to collect the two stones and to
start up the village next to the fire repel stone. While they"re doing that use
Infinite Earth and create a path from the new location of the first village to
the village at the top of the mountain. Also create a path around the side of
the mountain using infinite earth just encase. If you"re fast enough you"ll be
able to get the villages set up and the knowledge past between them long before
the tsunami hits. Just keep an eye on the height of the separate sections of
island as they"ll drop at periodically. Oh and be careful of your path going to
the third village catching fire, I recommend placing a line of lava down behind
the lava source to protect yourself.

Note that if you don"t get both types of knowledge to all the villages you have
failed. Yes I know that the challenge keeps going long after the level has
dropped giving you false hope, if you managed to get the repel water knowledge
to them all and not the repel lava, but you have failed.

Memory of the Tribe [MOTT]
###############################################################################

######################################Animals##################################

The Destroyer

The earth grew tired one day of being trampled by the animals. It commanded
the plants to grow so strong that all life perished, suffocated. The most
massive of animals burst into a blind rage, crushing the vegetation under its
bulk. The vegetation surrendered, but the anger of the destroyer abides.

The destroyer feeds on plants. Its mass is such that crushes all in its path,
including the prickly that stops all other animals. A destroyer is a danger
to all villages.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Planter

There was once an animal so voracious that it gobbled down all the plants in
sight, leaving only desert in its wake. The breath of plants went to plead
with the beast, but it ate the breath as well. Ever since then, the planter
sows new vegetation throughout the land.

The gargantuan planter roams the earth sowing vegetation as it goes. It flees
only fire.

###################################The Journey#################################

Music

The world was created with a sound. The sound snaked and music was born, and
with it all the elements: the sun, the water, the earth and life. When the
music fluctuates, so do the elements, because all is movement and music is the
reflection of this movement.

The trees of water vibrate naturally to the music of water, the trees of fire
resonate to the music of fire and so forth… As for the men, they have the
ability to learn each of the melodies of the world. They do so by obtaining a
power.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Knowledge

The Ancients knew that the men disappeared over time, while the knowledge
they gained on their journey had to be preserved. This is why the engraved the
undulations of the music of knowledge on the stones.

The stones of knowledge possess a special form of protection. A member of the
tribe must retrieve these for a village. Once this man has obtained this
knowledge, he paints it on a kite, then returns home. The knowledge thus takes
effect. Each village can share the knowledge they possess with the other
villages by sending forth a man.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Breath

It is by playing music, the shaman tells us, that we discovered the breath of
the tribe. The breath is what makes us men. And through the breath we can act
upon the world and apply the powers of music.

Every creature and every element, without exception, possesses its own breath.
To known its music is to master its actions. Thus, a tree of fire possesses
the breath of fire. The power of the breath of man lies in its ability to
acquire all the music of the world.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Portal

The men discovered that the Ancients had left them a passage by which to
pursue their journey. They descended into the narrow bowls of the earth to
accomplish a ritual. There, the shaman asked the breath of the earth to take
them to their destination. And they understood then, that a new passage would
rise up before them in each new place; until they discovered sanctuary of the
Ancients.

A passage is a portal left by the Ancients. Once a land has been explored and
the knowledge it concealed has been reaped, the men move on. They cross its
threshold and disappear.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Totems

When the Ancients would leave one place for another, all trace of them became
lost. So they erected totems to echo the breath of the tribe. This is why the
power of the Ancients takes the form of a totem.

A totem bears witness to the passage of a tribe through a location. It is all
that remains when a village disappears, and marks the sport where a new
village may be rebuilt. It may be submerged by water or lava. Sometimes, it
becomes possible for men to move a totem.

#######################################Geology#################################

The Earth

Upon its creation, the earth compared itself to the rock and envied its
hardness. Earth was like soft flesh on solid bone, and the rivers gouged
wrinkles into it constantly. Feeling useless, the earth retreated; and all
that its entrails contained was swallowed by the sea; the sources and the
buried relics… And everything that the earth held up was carried away by the
waves; rivers, plants, creatures and villages alike. Nothing remained by the
bare and desolate rock.

The earth was the first element that the breath of the tribe was able to
manipulate. The plants and trees grew upon it. The water formed ravines. Fire
cannot not spread on the naked earth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Rock

The breath of the earth and the breath of fire came together at the bottom of
a volcano and a fountain of lava was born of their union. The breath of fire
escaped from the lava; but the lava hardened, emprisoning the breath of earth
inside. This is why rock seems so hard and immutable.

Rock is the most resistant of all elements and serves as the foundation for
the islands and continents. A tsunami cannot break rock, but the sea can erode
it when tempests are in season. Fire cannot propagate on its surface. When it
cools, lava turns to rock. Only the explosive tree can harm it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sources

The water wept as it flowed ever downwards. It sent streams to learn the music
of earth in order to move more freely along its surface. But the earth sensed
it and absorbed these watery serpents. Some hid beneath the earth… From time
to time, the serpents emerge from their nest: these are sources.

The sources flow of their own volition and may be liberated by digging through
the surface. They carry earth all along their course. And a silt-rich source
will deposit earth at the bottom of its riverbed, forming a delta.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Volcano

In the beginning, the sea was lonely, all spread out in the middle of the
universe. The sun came near to console the sea. But it shrunk back and the
sun sunk to the very bottom of the sea. Its ardent fire warmed and revived
the rock, which broke through the surface of the sea water: the first volcano
was born.

When the volcano awakens, it can spew cinders and bombs. From its mouth spills
a river of lava, once or repeatedly, depending on its mood. The lava burning
and destroys all in its passage, but once cooled, it congeals into the most
solid of rock.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tide

The sea marvels to watch the animals on the surface of the earth. It wanted to
possess at least one of life"s attributes, and obtained that of its breath.
Hence forth, sea"s surface rises and falls in rhythm.

The rhythm and the amplitude of the tides varies from one place to the next.
The tides reconnect the islands when they abate, and submerge the territories
at high tide.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tsunami

The sea saw the earth raise up mountain and volcanos. It wanted to rise up to
meet them, but the water fell down each time, defeated by its own gravity.
When the earth watched the sea with disdain, the sea said: ‘Water can not
only rise up, but also move forward: henceforth, tidal waves will sweep across
and swallow up a part of the earth."

The tsunamis are the roar of the sea, once or repeatedly. Nothing can hold
them back except certain cliffs, which tower over their foam. The villages can
nevertheless protect themselves by way of a power: repel water.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Caldera

Once a shaman tried to seize the power of the earth. To do so, he was to play
music from a shell he would find on the shore. But the shell the shaman chose
was too small, so when he brazenly ordered the earth to collapse (thinking to
show off his new power), only a small portion of the earth ceded around him!
When the earth grows bored, it laughs to itself while recalling this tale.

The caldera is formed by a circle of terrain that collapses under the effect
of an earthquake. Whatever is within the perimeter of the circle when the
crater forms remains unharmed.

###################################Territories#################################

The Breath

In the beginning, even the Ancients had no breath. With nothing but a shell
and a piece of wood that they found, they began to play. The music sprang
forth, and with it a tiny breath. They attached the breath to themselves.
Seeing that it was empty, they decided to offer the breath all the music of
the world. The island sheltered none, and so they moved on.

This island contains the breath of the tribe.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ritual

The Ancients arrived on a chain of islands where life thrived on a silt-rich
delta. They made a circle to enact the ritual from whence their village would
emerge. The totem did not yet have a shape. The shaman incanted: ‘May our
totem reflect the movement of the world that is music, but also out nature as
men, which is to craft. If we leave, a part of our memory will remain
inscribed on it.”

The archipelago contains 1 totem and 1 hidden source of sediment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Roar of the Sea

The ancients came to the coast in the hopes of harnessing the breath of water.
The music of the lakes and the sources was too weak for their ears. They moved
to the seaside, the better to hear it. There, the music was louder… so loud
that it rose to its maximum height and nearly swallowed their village. The
Ancients also engraved the knowledge of water on a stone. By deciphering it,
the future tribes could protect themselves.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The First Power

The Ancients followed the coast to a beach tormented by tsunamis. Although
they possessed the knowledge of water, they could not leave their villages.
So a man was sent to recover the Amplify power. He spoke to a volcano that
had pierced through the earth nearby: ‘Let us take your lava in order to
protect the most exposed of our villages. Your lava, become rock, will rise
higher than the highest wave!" Thus, the wall was born.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Thousand Sources

The Ancients left the coast to explore inland. The country was covered with
sources whose torrents eroded the soil and stripped it bare. The men decided
to help the earth. They discovered the power Evaporate, then buried the
sources one after the other. Peace returned, but the vegetation deprived of
water perished and the desert set in. The Ancients, who had privileged the
earth over water were forced to leave.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wildfires

The Ancients came to a ravaged island. The vegetation ceaselessly caught fire,
and the rivers gouged ravines in the earth. The trees of fire occupied half
of the island and the trees of water the other, because their breaths were so
incompatible. The men settled down near the trees of fire to learn their
music, then near the trees of water. They attempted to calm their breaths,
but the trees continued to fight. When the men gave up hope and left, the
destruction began anew.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waves

The Ancients set foot on a strange land, which rose and fell with a gentle
tide. The presence of the trees of water and the trees of fire frightened the
Ancients, who had already suffered from their clash. A man then noticed that
a tree of fire and one of water and become intertwined. The fire of the first
nourished the water of the second, from which vegetation grew. When the
Ancients understood that the two breaths would oppose each other or join
forced depending on the circumstances, they pursed their journey.

On this territory, you can form a long serpent of jellified water to grow
vegetation on. The vegetation will spread along the water until it begins to
flow again, when the effect of the power wears off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

High Tides

In the beginning, the archipelago had no tides, and the Ancients settled down
without fear. One day, they used a power of water to push back the sea in
order to spread the vegetation. And since then, the sea comes regularly to
submerge the earth and recover what was stolen.

You can use the musical power of the villages to shut off the three sources of
water and dry up the centre of the territory.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tears of Stone

The Ancients once came to a verdant coast. Very soon, a great volcano burst
into rage and its tears of stone in fusion surrounded the villages. The men
wished to play the music of the volcano in order to sooth it, but the breath
of the lava and of the rock were inaccessible nestled within the boiling
entrails of the volcano. The shaman detected the echo of its breath in the
heart of the explosive trees, which fled in panic before the approaching fire.
Thanks to this tree, the flows of lava have left the Ancients in peace.

The water sources have been covered by volcanic ash. To control the volcano
you must dig them up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Raging Earth

The Ancients climbed atop a high plateau forever shrouded in mist, and from
which resounded a chaotic uproar: the sources and the volcanoes had joined
forces so completely that nothing else could survive there. The Ancients, who
had learned their music, decided to separate them. At first, it worked… Then
the water and the fire grew out of control, and the plateau once more become
uninhabitable.

In the midst of the raging battle between fire and water, the tree of water
was victories over the explosive tree. But the seeds of the explosive tree
remain just beneath the soil, ready to help reestablish the balance.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Emergence

The Ancients arrived on a reef lost at sea. Since they possessed many powers,
they decided to create their own land: first a cinder-spewing volcano, then a
muddy source… But their island grew so heavy that the ea swallowed it up. The
Ancients left, knowing that the breath which had just created was merely
asleep.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movements

The Ancients came to a vast extinct crater. They left, and upon their return,
the volcano overflowed with large quantities of lava, creating islands. Again
they took leave. Later, they returned to find that the volcano had become
extinct and that sources had been revealed. And when they went back to the
crater the next time, the landscape had once again changed. All is fluid and
fleeting, they say, like the earth and the sea and the men that pass.

#####################################Powers####################################

Amplify the Breath

On a beach, an Ancient discovered music which had become trapped in a shell.
In its efforts to escape, the music had coiled back on itself. When the
Ancient freed the music, it unfurled and was amplified. Thus the power to
Amplify was born.

Amplify increases the capacity of the Breath of the tribe, so that the tribe
can carry more earth, sea or lava. Its effect is temporary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jellify Water

One day, the shaman of the Ancients wanted to capture the breath of water. The
breath escaped his grasp, but he did manage to capture a part of its music.
When he played it, he noticed that the water would congeal: thus he was able
to tame the errant nature of the water.

The Jellify water power immobilizes water wherever it may be - lakes, rivers
and even seas. The water acts as an obstacle. Its effect is temporary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Put Out Fire

The fire was compelled by its insatiable appetite to race after the plants,
animals and men. When a fire threatened to consume his village, a shaman of
the Ancients sat down before it. He asked the fire to grant him the music of
its movement, so that his village might be spared. Thus the power of halt fire
was born.

The Put out fire power stops fire wherever it may be. Its effect is temporary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evaporate

The Ancients needed to settle in a village that was flooded. The shaman told
the water: ‘Grant us the music to turn you into vapor, and we will make a
great cloud of you." Delighted, the water accepted. Thus the power was born.

The evaporate power lowers the level of water wherever it is found. Its effect
is temporary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Infinite Earth

A shaman learned the music of the earth. Its power was so mighty that man
delighted in using it to create islands and raise hills all around him. He
passed the power on to all he met. The music grew weary and its potency waned.
On that day, all the powers become ephemeral.

The Infinite Earth power enables the Breath of the tribe to generate great
quantities of earth. Its effect is temporary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Engulf All

Once upon a time, the powers of creation were so mighty that their music
deafened the world whenever they were used. Then a silence was born; so potent
was the silence that it swallowed up the elements themselves.

The Engulf all power enables the Breath of the tribe to absorb the water, the
earth and the lava in its path. Its effect is temporary.

####################################Vegetation#################################

The Tree of Water

One day a tree attempted to stop the tide that rose ever higher. It swallowed
all the water it could. But it bloated so much that it exploded. And thus it
continues to this day.

The water tree grows on the land. During its lifetime, it constantly absorbs
water by its roots, then explodes in a magnificent geyser. Its seed is
released and a new tree grows in its stead. When fire approaches, it releases
the water it stores and pushes back the fire surrounding it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Explosive Tree

A long time ago, a tree found itself threatened by fire. It sought to expulse
its seed, but it remained stuck within. So the tree tensed, bloated and then
burst with a great detonation.

The explosive tree grows on land. In the presence of fire, it bursts, makes a
hole, and the seed it releases immediately produces a new tree. It fears the
tree of fire. But even the rock of the mountains and of the craters are no
match for its explosion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tree of Fire

One day, a tree stole the breath of fire from a volcano. Since then, the fire
avenges itself by devouring the entire tree, leaving only the seed to
germinate straight away. And the cycle recommences without end.

The tree of fire grows on the land. At the end of its life, it catches fire.
It evaporates all the water surrounding it before setting the vegetation on
fire. Men and animals flee before its formidable flames, which even triggers
the explosive tree, hence renewing the earth. The coral plant is the only
plant to resist the flames of this tree; but only the water tree can contain
its power.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Palm Trees

The first animals came into existence on a new island. But there was nothing
but the earth, arid and barren, and that is why they all perished. As soon as
the palms grew, the animals prospered and men settled in.

The palms grow on the naked earth but does not encroach on other vegetation.
It will not grow on either rock or water. It is inflammable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Coral Plant

Regularly, the fire would ravage a valley. One scrawny plant manages to hide
in the earth. There, its roots imprisoned the breath of fire, which enveloped
the plant with a fireproof hide.

The coral plant grows on the naked earth, but does not encroach upon other
vegetation. It will not grow on water or rock. Fire is extinguished upon
contact with it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Prickly

The earth created the islands, on which the sea constantly nibbled until none
remained. So life gave the earth the prickly. The plant covered the islands
with a blanket insensitive to the assaults of the sea, but so barbed that all
other forms of life would become its prisoners.

The prickly grows on the naked earth but does not encroach on the other
plants. It does not grow on water or rock. The fire consumes it. It stops men
and animals alike, expect for the destroy who can charge right through the
prickly

######################################Tribe####################################

The Shaman

In the past, the tribe did not have a shaman, and the men told the same
stories differently each time. In order that the breath should speak with one
voice the men named a shaman.

The shaman is the mediator between the tribe and breaths of the world. The
shaman is a man or a woman of the village. The title confers no privileges,
and nothing distinguishes the shaman from the rest of the tribe. The shaman is
replaced upon death. In the village, the shaman tells stories and deciphers
music.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Village

The men journeyed endlessly. Since they suffered from loneliness, they decided
to populate the lands they came upon. They performed the ritual around the
totem, and built their huts.

A village serves as shelter, and as a place for men to survive and carry on.
When a village is created, vegetation propagates all around it. A village is
vulnerable to numerous threats--fire, flooding or rampaging destroyers--but
the powers can protect the village from all of these.
Sometimes, a village can be moved. Around the village, the men sculpt statues
where they consign their knowledge gained through experience.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Power of Water

One day, so say the Ancients, we men offended the breath of water and a
tsunami swept down upon us. At the last moment, our shaman discerned the
beauty of its music in the midst of the roaring. We playing it, and the
tsunami spared the village.

All villages are vulnerable to the threat of rising waters that can drown.
This power holds back the water of a river, a rising tide or a tsunami beyond
the circle of the village. It is obtainable with a stone of knowledge and can
be transmitted from one village to another. Its protection is permanent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Power of Lava

One day, so say the Ancients, we put out the fire of the village without
honoring it. The breath of fire took umbrage and the great flames leapt after
us. In the midst of their roar, the shaman thus heard the beautiful music of
the flames. We played it, and the fire spared the village.

All villages are vulnerable to the threat of fire and lava, which can burn the
huts and swallow them beneath the magma. This power stops fire and lava at the
perimeter of the village. It is obtainable with a stone of knowledge, and can
be transmitted from one village to another. Its protection is permanent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Masks

Before, the members of the tribe made music with bare heads, but the sounds
that sprang from their instruments different each time, and the power was
altered. A shaman made white masks, and the music, this time, worked. Because
those who play with a mask are no longer man nor woman, nor aged--but the
breath of the tribe in its entirety.

A mask is the intermediary between the wearer and the instrument he plays.
Each child receives a mask at his (or her) initiation, and will not set it
aside until his or her death.
Thus, the members of the tribe can play at any time. These masks are the only
crafted objects they take on their journey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Men

In the beginning, the men were good at nothing. They did not burn like the
lava, nor did they sprinkle like the water, they could not build dams like
the dyker and had not the appetite of the destroyer. So the breath of life
gave or offered them the ability to learn and to transmit the music of things.

The men know how to find food for themselves in the nature. They live in
tribes, wear masks and have a shaman. The quest of the Ancients guides them
across the world.

It may be that they will find their own music.

Man this guide took forever to finish, been at this for two weeks now and I
managed to finish the main section of the guide in only two days but I just
kept adding to it and here it is, as complete as I can make it…I think. From
Dust was a fantastic game and I really hope Ubisoft follows it up somehow, I
feel the game itself was a bit bare so I would expect a sequel to be a lot
richer.

Because it"ll only get worse I"m going to write down that I"m currently rank
79 in the worldwide challenge rankings so woo, and indeed, hoo.

If you wish to contact me about this guide then e-mail me at
Jallen9000 (at) Hotmail.com.
Note that is my junk mail address and if you don"t put "From Dust Walkthrough
related” or something similar I probably won"t read it.

You may take this guide (or sections of it) and use it on your website without
asking me however I do ask that you credit me. I.E: "Original material written
